Noah: Part Two of Two

I know that everyone wants to know about the ark. It is true that I built a crude boat that would probably be the size of a houseboat but it did have a covering over the top. It was bigger than a fishing boat but it wasn’t a cruise ship or an aircraft carrier, which it would have had to have been to accommodate two of every species of animal.

No, there weren’t gorillas, zebras, rhinos, elephants, tigers, lions, bears or giraffes but it makes me chuckle to think of what that would have been like. Pretty funny stuff.

I built the ‘ark’ because I wanted to have a way to protect my family and property from floods. We had experienced one before and lost everything. I knew people who lost their lives and drowned. I built it and my family and our farm animals had a place to ride out the storm. The roof leaked a little at first and then something awful later on. I’m very glad we had it. Our home didn’t make it.

The story said that we were on there for 40 days and 40 nights. Let’s take the zeros off. It rained really hard for four straight days. Thank God. If it had been any longer, we would have killed each other. We had a chicken, a rooster, two baby rabbits and a male and female lambs. We had to leave their momma behind.

Back then, owning certain kinds of animals was important to living. Making the ‘ark’ big enough for a few small animals went into my planning in the first place. I hate to burst any bubbles but now I will tell you something that is true from the story.

Remember how I told you how superstitious I was and how common that was? Well, I really did think that God was punishing us by giving us too much rain and a resulting flood. I was also a tad bit judgmental about ‘wicked’ people. I didn’t want to be one of those because I wanted to be on God’s good side.

To us, it seemed like the whole world flooded but we didn’t have a good concept of what the whole world was. We were not seasoned explorers or travelers yet.

I will end with this. You can’t always believe everything you hear.
