My name is Tamir (Rice). I got into some trouble and then everything changed. I see now that all of the rules are strictly enforced around Black males but others, not so much.

I’m okay. I’m fine really. I like where I Am now. I wasn’t on the earth that long. I was only 12. I miss my mom and dad and my friends. I can see them but they can’t see me. It’s like one of those weird one way mirrors.

They say that Black Lives Matter but to me and to others here on this side, it seems that rules and policies and procedures matter much more than Black lives. That’s the point. Why is this? How come we don’t matter as much as laws and rules do?

My life mattered and it still does. It mattered even though it may not have mattered to some. This is what I hope that people will learn one day. There’s not one of us who is less than anyone else, not one. I hope that more people don’t have to experience this and that they can have long lives where they feel like they matter to people who know them and people who don’t.

Peace Out,
Tamir
