I’ve got to get in on this. You have to hear a sister’s perspective, a black sister. I Am Breonna (Taylor). Man, everything can change in a split second. That day last year was a regular day. I didn’t realize what was happening. It was late and I had been asleep. I didn’t feel any pain. One second is all it took. One second you’re here in this world and the next second you’re in another one. It’s wild. The world I’m in now is very comfortable. Everyone is chill. We know things that we didn’t know before. It’s like our blinders were removed.
I’m not angry per say, but it is really frustrating to realize that what happened to me didn’t have to happen. I could still be there. I wanted to be a nurse. The whole war on drugs thing and the legal system, with its warrants and all of that. It’s not only anti-Black but its anti-human. I see it for what it is. It’s pure fear. Why are they afraid of us? Why are we afraid of each other?
People still have a lot to figure out. They have a lot of work to do, that’s for sure.
